Winter Camps 2017-2018 Descriptions

WINTER CAMPS – LEARN BEYOND THE BOOK LOCATION

WEEK 1:  DEC. 18-22(AM):

3D Digital Modeling & Sculpting (9+ yrs.) – Create 3D Animation of your very own and bring it to life! Students are introduced to popular 3D modeling software Sculptris and are led through the concepts needed to understand the vast world of 3D modeling, texturing, and digital sculpting. No prior experience is necessary as this is a course designed for beginners to grow with detailed instruction at their own pace.

Holiday Baking (5-8 yrs.) – Create a variety of delicious desserts, cookies and baked breads for the holidays, all from scratch! Learn to roll out and decorate cookies, make biscuits with honey butter, and much more! Surprise your family with a delicious and festive addition to a holiday dinner! Decorate an apron and take home your very own cookbook so you can make these at home as gifts for family or friends!

Holiday Crafting & Giftmaking (5-9 yrs.) – Have fun this holiday season making all kinds of wonderful gifts for your family and friends.  Learn to work in many different mediums including, watercolor painting, pen and ink, pastels, collage, sculpture, and more…

Holiday Musical Theater & Acting Games (9+ yrs.) – Students will discover all aspects of a true Musical Theater experience; learning how to create their own characters, write their own playwrights and songs, and come up with their own dance moves. Their play will be holiday themed and classes will have lessons in acting games, improvisation, character building, plot line creation, vocal warmups, songwriting, and dance. By the end of camp, students will have created a short holiday play of their own to perform for family and friends!

LEGO Robotics – Ninjago (5-9 yrs) – Master the world of LEGO Ninjago!  Tame the Ice Dragon, motorize your Warrior Bike,, Earth Driller, and Blade Cycle, and hone your Spinjitzu battle skills. Lego Engineers will learn real world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture while exploring the fantasy world of Ninjago. Each student will take home a LEGO mini- figure.

LEGO Stop Motion Animation (7+ yrs.) – Make your own movie with LEGO®s!  Using LEGO®s you will come up with your own ideas and stories, build your own sets, and learn to use the camera! Dream up an adventure in another galaxy, find a whole new world in Narnia, or create a pirate scene in the Caribbean! Take home a flash drive with your animation on it!

 

WEEK 2:  DEC.26-29(AM):

Draw & Paint Holidays (5-9 yrs.) –  All the fun of a regular drawing & painting class, but with a holiday twist!  Come learn the skills to make everything look great and take home a piece of framed art.

Holiday Cooking Around the World (5+ yrs.) – Learn about cultures around the world and how to cook their traditional Holiday foods from scratch using fresh ingredients. It will be fun measuring, stirring batter, cracking eggs, and tasting a variety of foods with more hands-on fun!  You will take home a decorated apron and a cookbook full of the recipes you made in class so that you can show your family how you can cook, from all around the world this holiday!

Kids Science Camp (9+ yrs.) – In the Kids Science camp, students will participate in an exciting new science experiment each day. During their explorations, students will be exposed to cause and effect, patterns and systems. They will use creativity, cooperation and problem-solving skills to conduct investigations and design solutions. Build an anti-gravity invention to learn about magnetic attraction! Have a blast learning about the  amazing colors in bubbles and how all that works!  Make some slime and construct a remote control roller using an empty soda can, a balloon and static electricity from your own hair…then have a race with friends across the room!

Video Game Design – Minecraft Mods (8+ yrs.) – In this class students will learn how to Modify or Mod the game Minecraft® using the JAVA Programming language. They will create custom swords, tools, armor, foods and more — that can be played and shared with friends. Each student will be working on an individual laptop and they will be able to interact and test their mods in the game Minecraft®. Students will take home a flash drive with their mod files on the last day of class.

WEEK 2:  DEC. 26-29(PM):

Cake Decorating (8+ yrs.) – How do they get cakes to look so smooth and beautiful in the store?  Come learn all about cake decorating.  Use real tools to decorate your own cake to take home by the end of camp as well as your own decorated apron.

LEGO Mindstorms Battlebots (8+ yrs.) – This class is an introduction to the LEGO® Mind- storms NXT Robotic System. Students will build robots and program them with a computer to move, react, and make sounds in order to solve challenges.

Video Game Design-Scratch Programming (8 + yrs.) – 2-D Video Gaming session takes students through the entire video game making process using Scratch, an MIT-designed programming language for youth. Scratch makes it easy for youth to design games. Students work in teams to create game- plots, design characters and various game levels.

 

WEEK 3: JAN.2-5(AM):

Beginning Python Programming (9+ yrs.) – Python is an easy-to-learn programming language that has some really useful features for a beginning programmer. The code is quite easy to read when compared to other programming languages, and it has an interactive shell into which you can enter your programs and see them run. Kids will build their own video games with Python to take home.

Cooking Around the World (5+ yrs.)  – Learn about cultures around the world and how to cook their foods from scratch using fresh ingredients. Cook for a Mexican Fiesta or get fancy at an English tea party! Cook up a Swedish Break- fast, Indian cuisine, French dessert and much more!!! Bon Appétit! It will be fun measuring, stir- ring batter, cracking eggs, and tasting a variety of foods with more hands-on fun!  You will take home a chef hat, apron and a cookbook full of the recipes you made in class so that you can show your family how you can cook, from all around the world!

LEGO Robotics – Star Wars (5-9 yrs) – Race with Luke Skywalker over the icy surface of planet Hoth in his snowspeeder! Keep watch from the command center trench with Commander Reekan and catch the Imperial Snowtroopers attacking the Rebel defenses. Build remote controlled LEGO® Imperial AT-AT Walkers. Each student will take a Star Wars LEGO® minifigure home on the last day of camp.

Photography Camp (8+ yrs.) – This course is an introduction to the basics of digital photography. We will cover camera models, the mechanics of a camera, and explore how to find and use light, as well as demonstrate composition and perspective techniques. Students will receive basic instruction on techniques, review several samples of desired outcomes, and participate in class demonstrations. Students will also learn how to use apps on their electronic devices to edit photos. Supplies needed: Students must bring a digital camera for them to use during class time. Cameras with a manual option will provide the broadest education, but any digital camera can be used, even smartphones.

WEEK 3:  JAN. 2-5(PM):

3D Design & Printing (9+ yrs.) – Come study an online 3D design program and then print your creations on our 3D printers!  No need to bring your own laptop, we have it all!

Junior Chef (9+ yrs.) – Based around the theme of the popular TV show, students will receive some instruction on cooking skills and will then be presented with challenges such as only being able to use certain ingredients to make a recipe of their own or only having a small budget to decide what ingredients to use in their recipes.  This is a fun camp for one of those creative chefs!  Every student will receive and decorate their own apron and also go home with a cookbook of recipes that the class did together.

Mixed Media Art Camp – Draw and paint! Use pastels! This class is a lot of fun because it involves working with several different media, and you will discover which one is your favorite! Some elements involved in mixed media that will be covered are: five basic elements of shape, shading, texture, value, color, composition, positive and negative space. You will develop your own imagination!

Movies By You (8+ yrs.) – Don’t just watch movies this Winter Break!  Come make your own!  Bring some friends and together you will come up with a script, characters, and then you will record the short scenes and edit them to make your very own movies to share with family and friends!

 

 

WINTER CAMP 2017 STEVENSON RANCH LOCATION

WEEK 1:  DEC. 18-22(AM):

Jewelry & Art Giftmaking (9+ yrs.) – You will love making your own jewelry and then making some for special holiday gifts! Technique in basic jewelry making will be taught, and you will learn about mixing colors and shapes. A variety of decorative materials will be used in the projects, such as beads in wood, glass, metal and beautiful crystals. Students will even learn to make beads from clay and recycled paper!  They will be attached or strung on leather, quality metal chain, yarns and flosses, ribbon, leatherette, and more. You will be proud to wear tasteful and age appropriate bracelets, necklaces and/or earrings that you enjoyed creating and you will enjoy sharing it with your special someone as a gift.

LEGO Robotics – Amusement Parks (5-9 yrs.) – What could be more fun (and educational) than creating your own LEGO® Amusement Park? Get your Ticket to Ride building LEGO® brick models complete with gears, axles, motors, etc. Models include the Carousel Ride, Swingboat, Cyclone and more.

Week 1:  DEC. 18-22(PM):

Art & Gift Making Camp (5+ yrs.) – You will make some beautiful art and some special holiday gifts! Technique in basic drawing, painting, and clay work will be taught.  Students will even learn to make beads from clay and recycled paper!  Students will go home with their own framed art piece (if that is the kind of gift they choose to make) or otherwise wrapped in a gift bag decorated by the student!  It will melt the hearts of whoever the lucky person will be!

Ninja Warrior Training (5+ yrs.) – The first thing you think of when you hear “ninja warrior” would be strength, discipline, and courage!  These are all part of the martial arts discipline that Master Espinosa will be teaching to your children in a fun and age-appropriate manner, interspersed with games and challenges.

Self Defense (8+ yrs) – Wondering what the best strategies are for defending yourself in a tough situation?  Come learn from Master Espinosa and his staff about the moves that can help you get out of a tricky situation.

Stop Motion Clay Animation Movie Camp (8+ yrs.) – Do you love claymation movies?  They are such works of art!  Come create your own 3D physical models out of wire and clay and then animate the characters to make your own stop motion movie.

WEEK 3:  JAN. 2-5(AM):

LEGO Robotics Batman (5-9 yrs.) – Swing through Gotham City! Race The Joker in a Bat Mobile! Save the city from the criminals in Arkham Asylum! Have fun with your friends building motorized creations from all the LEGO Batman Movies!

2D Video Game Design with MMF 2.5 (8+ yrs.) – This class will teach kids the basics of video game development and programming logic. We will be using Multi Media™ Fusion 2.5 to build a variety of video games. Students will be given a good foundation learning the basic skills they need to make their own games. Students will take home a USB Flash Drive with all their game files at the end of class.

LEGO Robotics – Minecraft (5-9 yrs.) – Master the world of Minecraft® with LEGO®! Build a motorized Creeper, minecart and terrifying Ghast. There will be various Redstone contraptions and traps. LEGO® Engineers will learn real world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture while exploring the world of Minecraft.®
